SECTION—I

Answer any five of the following questions : 2×5=10

1. Who advocated the positivist theory? What does positivism stand for?

2. "History is an unending dialogue between the present and the past." Who wrote it?

3. Give a brief account of the author of Rajatarangini.

4. Write an overview of Jadunath Sarkar as a modern Indian historiographer.

5. Explain the ideas of St. Augustine's The City of God.

Answer any four of the following questions: 5x4=20


6. What do you understand by the term 'relativism'?

7. Throw light on the relationship of History with Philosophy and Ethics.

8. Discuss the chief sources of data collection for historical writings.

9. Give an account of Tacitus and his contribution towards Roman historiography.

10. Who was Abul Fazl? Trace his contribution to Mughal historiography.

Answer any five of the following questions :

11. Discuss the early life, works and contribution of Leopold von Ranke in the development of historiography.

12. Discuss the work and achievement of J. B. Bury as a historian of modern period.

13. Assess the work and ideas of Marc Bloch.

14. Throw light on the life and work of Eric Hobsbawm.

15. Discuss the contribution of James Mill as a modern Indian historiographer.

16. Assess the contribution of Kalhana to ancient Indian historiography.

17. Trace the main characteristics of the church historiography with 
special reference to St. Augustine.
