Unit—A

1. Explain any two of the following with reference to the context : 8×2=16

(a) Wherefore rejoice? What conquest brings he home? What tributaries follow him to Rome To grace in captive bonds his chariot wheels? You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things! O you hard hearts, you cruel men of Rome, Knew you not Pompey?

(b) That you do love me, I am nothing jealous; What you would work me to, I have some aim. How I have thought of this, and of these times, I shall recount hereafter. For this present, I would not( so with love I might entreat you) Be any further moved.

(c) It must be by his death : and, for my part, I know no personal cause to spurn at him But for the general. He would be crowned. How that might change his nature, there’s the question: It is the bright day that brings forth the adder; And that craves wary walking.

(d) Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, To cut the head off and then hack the limbs, Like wrath in death and envy afterwards; For Antony is but a limb of Caesar. Let us be sacrificers but not butchers, Caius. We all stand up against the spirit of Caesar; And in the spirit of men there is no blood.

2. Caius Cassius is the villain in the play, Julius Caesar. Explain. 16

 Who do you think is the hero in the play, Julius Caesar ? Justify your answer with suitable reasons. Or Discuss the play, Julius Caesar as a historical tragedy.

3. She Stoops to Conquer is a Romantic comedy. Justify. 16 

 Or

Give a description of Sir Charles Marlow’s character in the play, She Stoops to Conquer. 

 Or

Sketch the character of Mr. Hardcastle in the play, She Stoops to Conquer.

4. Describe the character of Madame in the one-act play, The Pen of My Aunt. 16 

 Or 

 The burglary plan in the play, The Best Laid Plans would have worked out just right had it not been for Primrose the butler. Discuss.

 Justify the title of the one-act play, The Hour of Truth.
