Section-A

1. Answer the following questions: 2×5=10
(a) Given $A=\{\left\{a,b,c,d,e,\mathrm{f\},}\right\} B=\{\left\{c,d,\mathrm{e\}}\right\}$, and $C=\{\left\{a,\mathrm{e\}}\right\}$. Find-
(i) $(A\cup B)\cup C$;
(ii) $A\cap (B\cup C)$.
(b) Given the function $y=3x^2+2x+7$. Find $dy/dx$.
(c) Calculate the median value of the following observation :
$X : 6 2 10 4 8$
(d) Define index number.
(e) Define conditional probability.

2. Answer any four of the following questions : 5x4=20
(a) Let $A=\{\left\{1,2,3,\mathrm{4\}}\right\}$, $B=\{\left\{2,4,6,\mathrm{8\}}\right\}$, and $C=\{\left\{3,4,5,\mathrm{6\}}\right\}$. Verify associative law.
(b) Find the equation of the straight line, if $y$-intercept is -7 and slope is 3/4.
(c) Given the cost function $\mathrm{C}={\mathrm{Q}}^3+7{\mathrm{Q}}^2-2\mathrm{Q}+\mathrm{50. }$Find AC and MC when $\mathrm{Q}=5$.
(d) Compute standard deviation of the following data:

(e) Calculate correlation coefficient of the following data:

(f) One pair of coins is tossed. What is the probability of getting at least a head and a tail?

(i) What is binomial probability distribution? 

(ii) A bag contains 5 white, 7 red and 8 black balls. If 4 balls are drawn one-by-one with replacement, what is the probability that (1) all are white and (2) only two are white?
