2. Answer any six of the following : 5×6=30

(a) Explain endemism with suitable examples.

(b) Explain polyclimax theory.

(c) What is Student’s t-test?

(d) What is meant by ozone layer? What is its significance?

(e) Differentiate between point and non-point sources of pollution.

(f) Briefly discuss about the major biomes of the world.

(g) What is gross primary productivity? How does it differ from net primary
productivity?

(h) Describe vegetation types of North-East India.

(i) Write a note on nitrogen cycle.

(j) Discuss on causes and consequences of water pollution.

3. Answer any four of the following questions : 10×4=40

(a) Describe the different kinds of ecological pyramids.

(b) Discuss the structure of ecosystem by taking an example of pond ecosystem.

(c) What is community stratification? Discuss horizontal and vertical stratification with suitable examples.

(d) What is chi-square test? Calculate the median of the following series of data obtained by measuring the heights of 16 plants :

(e) Describe the major sources of air pollution and discuss its adverse effect on climate and vegetation.

(f) Define ecological succession. Describe the causes and basic types
of succession.

(g) Describe major phytogeographical regions of India.
