Section—A

1. Answer any three of the following : 5×3=15

(a) Define memory. Write down the main differences between Primary and Secondary memory.

(b) Differentiate between the following :

(i) RAM and ROM

(ii) Software and Hardware

(c) Write short notes on the following :

(i) Virus

(ii) Internet

(d) Define software. Write down the difference between System and Application software.

(e) Define octal number system. Convert 254 from base 10 to base 2. Find the octal and the hexadecimal equivalent (010001110)2.

Section—B

2. Answer any one of the following : 10

(a) Write a short note on network security and its importance.

(b) Explain the various generation of computers with their characteristics.

(c) What is binary number system? Find the binary, octal and hexadecimal equivalent of (254)10.

Section—C

3. Answer any one of the following : 15

(a) Explain the fundamental unit of computer with a block diagram. Write down the classification of computers based on size. 7+8=15

(b) What is the main purpose of an operating system? Also explain the different types of operating system and their function. 2+6+7=15

(c) Define Internet and www. List down some of the advantages and drawbacks of Internet. What are its uses in day to day life? 15
